FMP Presentation
Ideas:
1)Video Diary
This will consist of a day to day video diary were i will record my day to day routine, I could use different editing techniques to make each video unique and I would also use different forms of recording (camera, iPhone)
I have already created 2 examples of the possibilities that a video diary would look like

2) The second idea that I had was to create a documentary about my life and the city that is brought up in (Carlisle), it would go through a brief history of Carlisle in the form of a documentary/short film, here is an example that i found whilst doing my research
3) The third and potentially final idea that I had was to mix the both together, this would be a bit more difficult to pull off but could work a lot more that just one of my ideas.

My Thoughts
|
My final thoughts were to create a video diary of my life in Carlisle and my day to day life as a student at Carlisle College and a YouTuber, I will possibly change this throughout the next couple of weeks but a Video Diary is the base of my Final Major Project.

My Research
Over the past week I have been researching how other YouTubers create their vlogging videos and I have researched different types of youtubers and their different techniques of filming. Here are some examples that I found:

Documentary Research
After about a week of researching different YouTubers, I decided to go with my original idea of a documentary. Here is my research.
A Good documentary |
A Bad Documentary |
AMy Winehouse
|
|
|
|
This example of a good documentary, is very fluid and uses great techniques of filming. Also David Attenborough is a very famous narrator, his style of narration creates an immersive atmosphere. The information given out in this documentary is given to the viewer in a very easy to understand way.
|
However this documentary about Will Smith is an example of a bad documentary as the quality is very distracting from any of the information that is given, especially when the footage is out of focus, because this causes the viewer to be distracted from what is actually going on.
|
This documentary about the life of Amy Winehouse, is a stunning piece of work, directed by Asif Kapadia. It is a very interesting way to film a documentary, especially with the fact that Kapadia doesn't use any interviews from Amy's friends or family, usually this would put me off watching a documentary but from what I have seen in the trailer makes me want to see it even more, because of the way it focuses entirely on Amy and it seems like her perspective on things.
Because of this way of filming I know that my final product will have a few shots of me in to try and focus on me. |
Evaluation
After about a week or two of research and the long process of coming up with an idea, I finally decided to make a short documentary. However I came across quite a few problems whilst filming and trying to edit the documentary, and because of this it slowed the process of finishing my FMP so after taking in the fact that the editing wasn't going particularly well. I decided to instead create a trailer for the documentary I was hoping to make. After a long process of filming and editing and coming across many problems along the way. I am happy to say that the first edit is above.

Evaluation 2
After about a week or two of research and the long process of coming up with an idea, I finally decided to make a short documentary. However I came across quite a few problems whilst filming and trying to edit the documentary, and because of this it slowed the process of finishing my FMP so after taking in the fact that the editing wasn't going particularly well. (The editing took a very long time, a lot longer than expected. Also after the filming took a long time, because the editing was taking a lot longer than expected I felt like I had no choice but to compromise)
Some of the problems I came across:
Final Cut Pro: Whilst editing the footage Final Cut Pro was very unresponsive and on more than one occasion it would crash on me and I would loose the work I had done in the process (even if I saved it or not), so because of the amount of time it took to film for the documentary I had to cut my edit time short and compromise.
Adobe Premier Pro: I experienced a very similar problem with Adobe Premier Pro, but this time I found that Adobe Premier Pro would not open at all.
So because of these problems that I occurred I have some footage that I was unable to use because of the time that I had to finish my project. (below).
These videos would have been in the original documentary but because of the problems I occurred, they had to be cut.
So in the end I decided to instead create a trailer for the documentary I was hoping to make. After a long process of filming and editing and coming across many problems along the way. I am happy to say that the second edit is above.

MY Life
After a very long process of planning, filming and more than one edit. I am happy to show the final product.
I used this short trailer as inspiration for my voice over, I picked this specific trailer because it uses a very similar voice over to the one that I used and also because the documentary is about someones life, the same as mine.

Final Product
|
Evaluation
My Life: The final product for my FMP, took a long time to complete but after a long process, it is finally complete. Editing: During the editing process of my FMP I have changed, and removed a lot of things, to create the final product. For example; I have shortened the length of the trailer by removing a few scenes that didn't work very well in the original, I have replaced these scenes with different scenes that work a lot more with the final edit. Also I have added a short voice over to make it seem more like a trailer, the voice over may be only a few lines long but it creates the effect that I wanted. I have also scaled a few things to make it look a lot better than the original did. Sound: The sound quality of the documentary trailer isn't the best, I think this is because of the way it was recorded, I tried to record quietly and it so this made it a lot quitter than it should have been. Next time I will just record as normal and edit the pitch of it if needed. The Final Product: Overall the I am very happy with the final product, it took me a lot longer than I thought it would and the editing was probably the longest part of the whole thing, also the final product might be a lot shorter than the original but I found that it works a lot better that way. It works being a lot shorter because of the amount of things that are going on in the trailer which makes it seem a lot longer than it is. So overall I am very happy with the final product (left).
